What is the Order of the Eastern Star ?
The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both women and men may belong. Worldwide, there are over 500,000 members. Eastern Star is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values, but it is not a religion. Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the refreshing and character-building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work. A deep fraternal bond exists between its members. It is the wholesome relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified in our lives which makes us near and dear to each other.
While this is an Order composed of people of deep spiritual convictions, it is open to all faiths, except no faith. The personal welfare of our members is vital to all of those in the Eastern Star, and it is considered a privilege to help another member whenever we can.
"Eastern Star strives to take good people, through uplifting and elevating associations of love and service as well as through precept and example, to build an Order which is truly dedicated to Charity, Truth and Loving Kindness."
ABOUT US
Our Chapter is the oldest in the Houston Area. We are composed of members of all kinds of backgrounds, race, religion and economic standing. We are united in fraternal fellowship. Which in simple terms means we are of like mind in that we want to be the best person we can be. We are Master Masons and the female relatives of AF & AM Masons. The Masons were formed by people who wanted to be free thinkers. Men who believed that they had the right to express their opinions and ideals. They met behind closed doors because most places in the world people were not allowed to express their thoughts while they were under the rule of monarchies. Our country's Constitution was written by some of the most famous Masons of their day who believed that all people had a right to express their opinions and that we should be able to have freedom of speech and religion. This order was formed in order for both men and women to be enlightened thinkers. We continue to meet and work on improving ourselves and helping others along the way.
